Blue Ribbon Commission Supports Principles of Conduct
February 23, 2012
The U.S. Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future released its final report to the U.S. Secretary of Energy, expressing support for the Nuclear Power Plant Exporters’ Principles of Conduct.
The report is a comprehensive review of policies for managing the back end of the nuclear fuel cycle. This review also underlines the role industry can play in strengthening the international nonproliferation and security regimes, voicing support for “efforts by international nuclear vendors to embrace additional and voluntary self-governance regimes” and highlighting industry’s part in advancing the safe and secure operation of nuclear energy facilities.
The Commission calls on the international community to continue to strengthen the operation of civilian nuclear power facilities, particularly as a number of nations are seeking to expand their nuclear energy programs and new customers are developing nuclear energy for the first time.
The participating companies in the Principles of Conduct welcome the support of the Blue Ribbon Commission.
More information about the Principles of Conduct is available at nuclearprinciples.org. The Nuclear Power Plant Exporters’ Principles of Conduct are an industry code of conduct articulating and consolidating recommended best practices in the exportation of nuclear power plants.« Back To For Media Page
